Preparation & cooking time – 30 minutes
For boiling process:-
Toor dal/arhar ki dal – 1/2 cup
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Oil – 1 tsp
Salt – 1/2 tsp
For tempering/tadka process:-
Pumpkin – 1/3 cup
Bottle guard – 1/3 cup
Drum stick – 6-8 small pieces
Tomatoes – 2 medium size
Small sambar onion – 10-11
Carrot & brinjal – (optional)
Ginger garlic paste – 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Fenugreek seeds – 1/3 tsp
Dry red chili – 2
Asafoetida – 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves – 10
Salt – 1/2 tsp
Red chili powder – 1 tsp
Sambar masala powder – 1 tbsp
Tamarind pulp – 3 tbsp
Jaggery – 1 tbsp
Cooking oil – 2 tbsp
Vital Tips :-
Brinjal and carrot can be added. It is optional. You can add or omit vegetables according to your choice.
Don’t use a hand blender to blend dal. Use just a ladle to make it smooth puree.
If you do not have small shallots (sambar onion) you can add big onions into thin slices.
Add tamarind and Jaggery both as it enables the taste of sambar. You will definitely get the taste of hotel style sambar at your home.
Use fresh vegetables for better results.
